Episode 4: The Betrayal
You don’t need to know, what my name is, or who am I actually! All
you need to know is the story I am about to share with you all. The story that
matters and the story that needs to be told! We know that sometimes, some
things happen with some people that are actually unbelievable, strange and
eccentric and this story is no different. These things or the series of events,
change us for the better or worse, and decide who we become. So, assuming that
you are ready to believe whatever I say and believe the not so obvious, I
present to you the story of the unbelievable!!
It’s not every day that you wake up on
a strange deserted place that looks like a dense forest or an unexplored island
with an injury on your head along with a dozen dead bodies resembling soldiers
around you, smeared with blood. Abhay however, woke up in the similar
conditions on what seemed like an unexplored island. He opened his eyes and
realized something wasn’t right. However he got up, with a shooting pain in his
head unlike his usual migraine attacks. Of the many things he saw, he also saw
Ronit lying motionless a few feet away, the blood possibly smearing him,
So, he stood up, tried to recollect
himself, and limped for a certain distance, when he stumbled upon what looked
like a dead body and fell on the ground with his head hitting hard on the
ground, his vision started to blur when the events that lead him to that
condition, started playing in his head, like a movie, crystal clear.
Few weeks before the day on the island:
Abhay woke up,
trembling and shuddering after the nightmare about Ritika the previous night.
Ritika was still asleep, with an innocent smile covering her glowing lips. How
could she be, what Abhay saw in his nightmares? How could she betray him? She
after all was his life and his only soul mate.
‘Forget it,’ Abhay
muttered to himself. ‘I will never trust a stupid dream over my angel!’
It’s strange how we convince our instincts
to believe what we want them to, even when the situations clearly warrants
everything against our wishes. His nightmare was the clear proof that
Ritika would somehow try to hurt or even murder Sharmaji and could possibly be
an accomplice of the stranger, but Abhay chose to ignore the signs and believed
in Ritika against everyone else, with his full heart, like he always did. But
once the trust is broken, it’s never the same again no matter how hard you try,
is it?
Well, it turned out that she was discharged
from the hospital the next day and recuperated in the next few days. Abhay
didn’t realize but he slowly drifted away from her, owing to that one terrible
nightmare. Any idea has the potential to make you or break you, truly
said.
‘You sure, you want to go today buddy?’
Abhay asked, as he sat into the car.
‘Damn sure,’ Ronit replied. ‘We haven’t had
a quality time together for a long time now.’
Well, he was right. They have had no fun
time ever since this stranger menace. So, Ronit pestered Abhay for an outing.
After a lot of pestering Abhay finally relented, and unlike his usual self,
Abhay didn’t invite Ritika along with them this time. Well, so they first
headed to the petrol pump. But before they could get through the long queue,
Abhay’s migraine pain shot up again.
‘This is terrible,’ Abhay yelled, holding
his head tightly, writhing hard. ‘Fuck your trip Ronit, I need to get home as
soon as possible! Ah, hell!’
‘OK, OK cool down,’ Ronit said, as he
reversed the car back to their apartment.
Ronit yelled at Abhay for not consulting
another physician for his migraine matter but Abhay was in no condition to
listen anything. On their way back, they noticed some 3-4 fire truck running
towards the petrol pump. It turned out that a sudden spark in the fuel tank of
one of the vehicles had led into a terrible blast at the petrol pump, killing a
few and injuring all.
‘Holly shit!’ Abhay exclaimed. ‘Do you even
realize how close we were to death?’
Before Ronit could answer, something struck
Abhay: what if this had something to do with the stranger? He at once
took out his phone to alert Ritika and Sharmaji, when his phone rang,
thankfully without a PRIVATE NUMBER tag this time. It was from Shramaji.
‘Hello Mr. Abhay?’ an unknown man spoke over
the phone. ‘The person to whom this phone belonged has been in a terrible car
accident. We have referred him to the Hinduja hospital, come soon!’
So, it turned out that Sharmaji had a
terrible accident. His call log showed that he last talked to Abhay, so the
person there called Abhay, informing him about the casualty. When they reached
the hospital, they were informed about the urgent need of blood transfusion as
Sharmaji had suffered major blood loss. Abhay volunteered in, his blood group
matched, and so he donated the blood.
First Abhay, then Ritika and now Sharmaji,
Abhay knew for sure that the stranger was behind all this. He
however was helpless. Meanwhile, Abhay’s cell phone ringed. It was from Ritika,
Abhay cut the call. For the first time he rejected her call. Even though he
wished it wasn’t true, the probability of Ritika behind Sharmaji’s accident was
killing Abhay.
Few days passed, and Sharmaji was shifted
from hospital to his home. Abhay and Ronit volunteered and got him shifted to
their apartment for his better care. Ritika too volunteered and would regularly
get food along with soup and other amenities for Sharmaji.
‘Are you ok Abhay?’ Ritika asked, holding
Abhay’s hand, one day. ‘You haven’t been quite yourself for days now. Please
tell me, what is bothering you brother, please!’
‘Ah,
nothing,’ Abhay said, dodging the situation. ‘I am perfectly fine dear,
thanks!’
Whether he believed it or not, their
relationship had been strained by a single damn nightmare and god forbid, it
could never be the same ageless and invincible relationship again. So, to avoid
Ritika, Abhay got out of the apartment and was strolling in the society
premises, when a paper plane came flying towards him, and crashed at his feet.
Abhay out of his drive to distract himself, picked up the paper plane and,
unfolded it. He was shocked to see a message written on the paper, which the
plane was made of.
‘I
told you to kill yourself, but you didn’t listen,’ the message read. ‘Now, your closed ones shall suffer.
Gee..!!!’
Abhay knew at once, who was behind the paper
plane and as expected his phone rang.
‘In
cards and flowers on your window, your friends all begged for you to stay!
Sometimes beginnings aren’t so simple, sometimes goodbye is the only way…’ the
stranger innocently crooned the Shadow of the Day, by Linkin
Park and burst into his sinisterly evil laugh, as soon as Abhay picked
up the phone. ‘They’ll keep begging for you to stay but now it’s time to bid
goodbye to your loved ones Abhay!’
And before Abhay could say anything, the
stranger spoke again.
‘I told you, told you really friendly, but
you didn’t listen,’ he said, with his trademark calmness. ‘Didn’t I tell you to
die? Now see, poor Sharmaji too suffered an accident! And you yourself escaped
the death yourself, didn’t you?’
‘I’ll bloody kill you damn it! I’ll fucking
destroy you!’ Abhay burst out in anger. ‘Who the hell are you? Just face me and
I swear I’ll goddamn kill you!!! You son…’
‘…Shh…’ the stranger interrupted Abhay, with
a hissing sound. ‘Shh… just calm down my dear! Youth, I must agree, is the most
energetic time of an individual’s life! You think you can change the world,
with those inexperienced hands and courageous hearts, right? Poor lads, I feel
sorry for you all!’
‘Shut the fuck up, you asshole!’ Abhay
yelled again. ‘You try to hurt my family again and I’ll bloody screw you!!’
‘How right I was about the youth these
days!’ the stranger chuckled calmly. ‘You are so fucked up and you dare to
threaten me my dear? Poor you Abhay, my sympathies are with you! Just remember,
I am always a thousand steps ahead of you, and I shall DESTROY, ALL OF YOU!’
Before Abhay could react, he cut the call.
Abhay was threatened about Sharmaji, Ronit and of course Ritika, so he went
back straight to the apartment. As he entered Sharmaji’s room, he was shocked
to see Ritika and Sharmaji arguing over something. Sharmaji lay on the bed, and
Ritika had a strange looking weapon, resembling a gun pointed at him.
‘H...o…w can you do this to me child??’
Sharmaji pleaded.
‘I should have done this a long time ago,’
she said, as she loaded the gun.’
‘Ritika!’ Abhay interrupted her from
shooting Sharmaji, as he broke into the room. ‘What the hell do you think you
are doing?’
Abhay was shocked obviously. For out of the
thousands thing running in his head, Ritika killing Sharmaji was one thing that
seemed to be coming true. And his innocent angel, holding a gun at somebody,
was the one thing that he never imagined to witness in his worst of the
imaginations. Like every time, his nightmare was coming true even this time.
‘How could you…? Oh… Oh my god!’ Abhay
struggled for words, as tears came running down his eyes and emotions chocked
his voice. ‘This isn’t happening right? I mean how…?’
Abhay couldn’t control his emotions, so he
broke down to tears. He was broken. He wiped his tears from both his hands and
clutched his head between his hands, as he tried to speak again. Ritika,
however seemed, unaffected as she stood there, glaring at him.
‘You, out of all the people, were the only
one who I considered my soul mate Ritika! And you…? I mean…why?’ he chocked
again. ‘You were my angel and you are about to shoot my father? I mean, I’ve
been alive for so long, thinking you are there for me at every stage, to hold
me and you! Why did you do this???’
‘I told you stay away from this idiot,’
Ritika said, enraged as she pointed the gun at Abhay.
That was the moment that Abhay lost his
soul. He was shattered. How would you feel if your angel, your life, your soul
mate pointed a gun at you? Before he could react, a dart like something pierced
his neck and Ritika shot him, with her gun. Of all things, a betrayal at the
hands of his very own angel-Ritika was the last thing that he ever expected.
Abhay lost his balance and his legs almost
gave away, so he tripped on the floor itself. Much like his nightmare, the
surroundings began to blur, and slowly he lost his consciousness. The last
thing he saw was Ritika, coming near him and then his eyes were shut as he was
lost into nothingness!
Now why Ritika did what she did is still a
mystery. Why would she try to kill Sharmaji is a question unanswered. And her
shooting Abhay is one thing that is as absurd as it is shocking, when their
strong relation is concerned. Also, how the hell did Ronit and Abhay wind up on
that deserted island, all injured and surrounded by dead bodies is a big
mystery, isn’t it? How the hell did Abhay survive the gun shot itself? And of
all the mysteries, the involvement of the stranger in all this, is a big
unanswered question, I suppose.
What’s the future of Abhay, Ronit and
Sharmaji now as clearly Ritika isn’t what she seemed, is worth pondering. There
are a hundred questions that many of us seek answers to, and a thousand
mysteries wound up in this story. But for now let’s just say, the time will
reveal everything, or the next episode would for sure, hopefully!
