MobiKwik - Perfect Delusion

Imagine the situation:  (Please don't criticize the numbers, they are hypothetical anyway - well in both reality and in this imagination) You are normally using your mobile phone(assuming it is smart phone) and a notification of some ticket booking app, lets say BookMyShow comes up. Which says "Book tickets for an upcoming movie and get 90% cashback upto 200 Rs. " Given the condition that you were already planning to go for a movie, you get attracted to this offer and you go to BookMyShow to read more conditions of this offer. There you come across this app called MobiKwik (Which you actually did not heard of before this). The offer is something like: "You have to pay your movie ticket charges via MobiKwik wallet, and you will be offered a cashback of 90% of the ticket OR Rs 200 (Which ever is lower) in you SuperCash " As I said, you have never heard of Mobikwik wallet, how many of you will try to know that what is this SuperCash? My guess is, whi

The Future Shock(ed)!

T he doorbell rings. I get up and glide on my automated skateboard to the door –yep, we don’t walk anymore, we just glide – to answer. It’s an e-telegram . I authenticate the delivery pad with my electronic thumb impression, and the delivery guy leaves, handing me the telegram. I switch on the telegram and its screen lights up with: “Happy New Year!!” text, followed by a lovely message from one of my friends.

Hope

Image
Hope ‘Don’t lose hope buddy,’ my friend says. ‘Things will fall in place somehow! Just hope for the best!’ ‘Damn right, I should,’ I retort back as I cut the call and ask the Uber guy to switch on the air conditioning – oh, sometimes you have to ask for it, believe me. When you’re an adult male in your mid - twenties and still unsure of how it all will turn out to be eventually, hope isn’t really any help. Or even if you’re anybody struggling with your daily life and fair share of uncertainties and emotions – which each one of us, somehow is – things like hope, just don’t matter. I try to keep calm, and the taxi zips through the city as we pass by a billboard sign for an election campaign with Mr. Rahul Gandhi as the poster boy. And suddenly I’m enlightened by his genuine insights on how our country functions at one of his recent speeches. What good times to live in indeed! All hail Dynasty! All hail nepotism! (No Kangana ma’am these aren’t my thoughts, I just

Random thoughts: 1

Person 1 (To a  judgemental   person -2): Hey you. Here I have two tubes filled with blood. Can you tell me which one belongs to a high-born and which to a low - born? ( A bit of Nana Patekar touch) Person 2: No. How am I supposed to ?

S02E04: Now we know!

The Resurrection ( The time is near) (Mini web series) Have you read the  last  episode yet? Read it  here , if not...! Episode 16: Now we know ‘H ere’s the deal,’ Akshat was visibly off. ‘Tell me at least something! I feel like I’m in love with a stranger! I love you and I am living with you – hell, I’m practically sharing my entire life with you! And yet, I feel like you’re just a whole new person every new day!’ Some might see it as a whiny possessive typical Indian boyfriend rant, but where the things stood between them, Akshat was being fairly modest in his complaints. With all her secretive past and her heroic activities, Ritika had always been a very private and hard person. And that might be just fine for a short fling or a one night stand. But that wasn’t the case with them, and things were beginning to get nasty now.

Make your own URL shortener in PHP Part -3

This is third part of our 3 tutorial series of URL shortener. In this tutorial I am going to show you the last file needed to complete our project. If you have missed our first two tutorials than you can visit theme here. Part – I: CreateDb and get Long URL from user, insert that URL in Db and generate short URL. Part – II: Captureshort URL on server using .htaccess code lines and redirect it to the handlingscript, i.e redirect.php Now let’s continue with our Part –III. Coding Redirect.php As shown in part-2, when a query of short URL such as tx01.comeze/urlR/abcXYZ is fired, it gets redirected as redirect.php?id=abcXYZ This means that our long url’s base 64 part (mentioned in part -1 )   i.e “abcXYZ” in this URL is sent as GET parameter to that page. Hence we can use the GET array on redirect.php script to get the base 64 part. We can do this in PHP using:  $links=$_GET['id'];

Make your own URL shortener in PHP - Part 2

Here is the part -2 of our URL shortener making tutorial.  In the first part of this tutorial: We already made a table to store long and short URLs with an auto increment id column used to generate the short URL. W e made an HTML form on one page which takes long / original URL from the user and submits it to a PHP scripted page. That PHP scripted page handles the long URL by inserting it in the database first and then generates the short URL. If you missed the first part of this tutorial: Click Here.   You can also check the live implementation here: tx01.comeze.com/urlS           In this part I am going to show you how to capture the short URL on our server and redirect it to a script in order to search the short URL in our database and get its original URL from there and make a redirect to it. So let’s get started.

Make your own URL shortener in PHP - Part 1

Image
In this article I am going to show you how to make a URL shortener using PHP.  In this project we will:  Use a MySQL database in which we will insert the information of URL and its short URL. We will use PHP for shortening the original URL. We will use few Directives / Apache .htaccess code lines to redirect short URL to original URL. For this article purpose I am using WAMP server on my local computer, but I have also implemented this on an online server at this URL : http://tx01.comeze.com/urlS . I know this URL itself is too long but it is only for the learning purpose. Here is one URL which I created :  http://tx01.comeze.com/urlR/m

S02E03: The Questions Unanswered!

Image
The Resurrection ( The time is near) (Mini web series) Have you read the  2nd  episode yet? Read it  here , if not...! Episode 15:  The Questions unanswered! Questions are important in life – they define us. Imagine, how boring and baseless would a life be without any questions to strive for the answers to? From questions about the future, to some burning curiosities from the past and the present, all we do is strive hard to get answers to these questions and call it living a life! All in all, questions give our life a purpose, and without questions, would a life be worth living? Well, that’s yet another question! ‘You’re still not focusing enough Abhay!’ Ritika was furious. ‘How can I, when I don’t even know what I’m supposed to do?’ Abhay asked, frustrated. ‘You’re supposed to block the attack, damn it!’ ‘How???’ ‘You know that better Abhay! Now focus! Don’t let me in, in your mind, block me!’Ritika ordered, as she again began, trying to hypnotise him wi

S02E02 - A blast from the past!

Image
The Resurrection ( The time is near) (Mini web series) Have you read the  1st  episode yet? Read it  here , if not...! Episode 14: A blast from the past! Much like the Newton’s third law of motion for actions and reactions, even in life, any new event has equally impending implications; implications that might shock you, or might lift your dead spirits. Most events occur as the result of our actions in the present but what about the events springing from the past? What it is like to have a certain aspect from your past revisit you? Shock or excitement, it doesn’t matter, but a blast from the past leaves ripples large enough to disrupt the present and the future….!!

S02E01 - It's not the end!!

Image
The Resurrection ( The time is near) (Mini web series) Have you read the 0th episode yet? Read it here , if not...! Episode 13: It’s not the end! Mysterious things happen to everyone – things that they do not have any control over and sometimes even the things that are beyond the normal realms of human understanding. People either lose somebody or something, or end up witnessing a fate that they never believed could be theirs, for their entire life! What does one do then? Or what exactly is one expected to do at those times? I guess, there is no predefined protocol to dictate the course of action in situations like these, and the actions vary from perceptions of the individual to individual.

S02E00 - Down the memory lane

Image
The Resurrection ( The time is near) (Mini web series) Have you read the Season 1  yet? If not, Read it by clic king   here , to enjoy this episode. Episode 12: Down the memory lane So, remember me? We met like some 2 years ago, remember? No? Let me try it another way: You don’t need to know, what my name is, or who am I actually! All you need to know is the story I am about to share with you all. The story that matters, and the story that needs to be told! We know that sometimes, some things happen with some people that are actually unbelievable, strange and eccentric and this story is no different. These things or the series of events, change us for the better or worse, and decide who we become. So, assuming that you are ready to believe whatever I say and believe the not so obvious, I present to you the story of the unbelievable!!

Visiting card generator web app in PHP

Image
The visiting card generator is a very simple beginner level web app based on PHP's image - text functions . I have also used  mpdf module to output the image inside a PDF as per the requirements of my app. But you can modify the app for your own implementation. Starting with the concept:  This web-app takes some basic information inputs, like name, address, contact number etc. , from user and prints that information in a formatted manner on a image.

Normalize minified JS/CSS using chrome dev tools

Image
I was just playing around with chrome's dev tool testing my local code and found that I can normalize the minified version of a JS/CSS file using chrome's dev tool. First of all let me tell you what is a minified version of a JS/CSS code is. Minification (also minimisation or minimization), in computer programming languages and especially JavaScript, is the process of removing all unnecessary characters from source code without changing its functionality. These unnecessary characters usually include white space characters, new line characters, comments, and sometimes block delimiters, which are used to add readability to the code but are not required for it to execute.  - WikiPedia
